Bead Q! is coming to the Westside!!!

After the positive response to the my last weblog I thought it would be fun to do this again as we start a new phase in our business.

April 12, 2007

It was one of those days when work was just not getting accomplished, so I called Andy and together we played hookey. With nothing better to do and no place to go we went to Westside to see if we could find a new location. (I know, pretty pathetic.) The reality is, we have been prospecting since last October.

April 17, 2007

None of the locations we considered were viable...can we just say way out of our price range? But, as luck would have it, one of the calls connected Andy to John who was his landlord previously. That was the beginning of a beautiful thing.

April 18, 2007

Francine and I took a road trip and met with John and took a look inside. And it looked good.

April 26, 2007

Everyone seems to be on board with the new location and I have asked one too many people for their opinion so we are a go. The lease was signed today. I am not ready to say when the store will be up and running, but I will say that it will be before the end of summer!

So here is the first glimpse of our Westside store. It is located on 24765 Lorain Blvd. between Great Northern and Columbia.

Inside before construction. This was a former Curves location. The dressing rooms will become storage.

Last look before we transform to Bead Q!

From the back. There I am taking down the old lettering making room for our sign.

Our temporary sign is up and the whole world is now in on it.

June 1st
We have decided on a different color scheme as an attempt to warm up the space. I am hoping that brown and taupe were the right choices. Thanks to a painter with an expecting wife, this job was pushed up! Apparently they had a healthy baby a few days after the job was done.
June 4th
Slatwall was delivered today. We asked for 1 hour notice, they gave me 30min. with an early morning call. Threw on some clothes, brushed a couple of teeth, and sped all the way to the westside to make the delivery! As luck would have it, I sped right in front of the truck and pulled in before he did!
June 5th

Slatwall installation schedule. Slatwall installation cancelled. Small problem, there is not enough support behind the drywall to hold up the slatwall and all of our rocks!

At least there is an entry!

June 7th
An unexpected phone call from a friend resulted in free displays. The back room has been transformed to my workshop.
Workshop

Lighting. You can barely see it but there are spot lights up.

Jewelry cases painted.

Applied for occupancy permit today.

June 13th

Contractor withdrew from slatwall installation job.

Occupancy permit declined. Ask me sometime this is long story.

More stuff to be addressed.

Found new contractor for slatwall installation. Can not do work until the weekend...ok.

June 14th Early morning call from contractor, can do work now. Throw on some clothes, brush a couple of teeth race to westside.
June 19th Carpet installation has begun.
June 20th

We have made it more official, we installed our sign on the street and on the windows.

Carpet installation complete.
June 20th
Details.
Displays placed.
June 24th Almost done. All displays are complete. All that is left if product placement and a permit.

July 3rd
With help from the new crew almost all of the BEADS! are in place. We have less than a couple hours of work to be ready to open.

Latest news, the electrician will finish getting his permit when he gets around to it. Can I just say OMG!

So, needless to say, I no longer know when we will open.
