Jewelry Exploration June 6-8, 2008

Have you always wanted to learn to make jewelry but never had the time? If that is the case, this condensed three day exploration of jewelry skills is your ideal solution. From simple beading to silversmithing the wide array of classes will satisfy even the most experienced jewelry maker.

Join us Thursday, June 5th at 6pm to kick off this great event. Internationally and locally recognized artist Linda Hahn will start our weekend by helping us understand The Meaning of Stone. Appetizers and drinks will be served. Reservations a must!

Necklaces and Bracelets - Beading 101
Class instruction will cover all basic information needed to get started including finishing techniques for necklaces and bracelets. Students will have the opportunity to design a one of a kind Necklace or Bracelet. List of necessary materials and tools will be provided. Some tools will be available to share.
Cost: $37, Skill Level: Beginner

Earrings and Pendants – Beading 201
Learn to create Earrings and Pendants using wire-wrapping techniques. List of necessary materials will be provided. Tools are available for sharing, although medium to high grade round nose pliers are suggested. Cost: $32, Skill Level: Intermediate

Sea Spray Necklace This project based class will teach you all the basics needed to start beading and making great jewelry. By the end of the class not only will leave with a beautiful necklace but you will have the confidence to create your own designs. List of necessary materials and tools will be provided. Some tools will be available to share. Cost: $37, Skill Level: Beginner, Sessions: 1

Pearl Knotting
Learn the age-old technique of Pearl Knotting using a modern day device, a Tri-Cord Knotter. This technique may also be used to create new interest to your current bead designs. Materials list will be provided. Tri-Cord Knotter and one bobbin of thread will be included. Class registration must be 10 days prior to scheduled class to allow for the shipment for the Tri-Cord Knotter.
Cost: $40, with Tri-Cord Knotter $65, Skill Level: Intermediate

Secret Garden Bracelet
This class will teach you how to enhance your basic beading knowledge and enhancing it by adding fringe using a needle and thread. Cost: $37, Skill Level: Intermediate, Pre-requisite: Beading 101 Sessions: 1

Polly Shrink Bracelet
Looking for something different to enhance your beaded jewelry? Learn the how to make bracelet components using artist grade shrink plastic. Students will have the opportunity to complete several projects during the class. Cost: $32 Skill Level: Beginner Materials: $7.50, (4 sheets of PolyShrink) kit available from instructor, paid directly to instructor and not returnable once ordered.

Etched Layered Pendant In this class you will learn a simple process for etching copper and brass along with several finishing techniques. You will combine several etched pieces into a layered pendant that is uniquely yours. A variety of ideas for incorporating etched pieces into your work will be presented. Cost: $45 Skill Level: Beginner Materials: Materials and Supplies kit available from instructor, paid directly to instructor and not returnable once ordered.

Beyond Baroque Bracelet - Chain Maille
Learn to weave a traditional decorative chain using Jump Rings in your choice of metal. You will learn the proper way of opening and closing jump rings. Student may need additional time to complete the project

Precious Metal Clay - PMC 101
Precious Metal Clay (PMC) is the alternate answer to creating fine jewelry without metalsmithing. Students will learn basic techniques for handling and finishing PMC from a certified PMC instructor. Most pieces will be fired during the class remaining pieces may be picked up at the store the following day. Tools will be provided by instructor for sharing. Class registration must be 10 days before class to allow for ordering of materials. Students registering after this time will be responsible to acquire their own clay.

Precious Metal Clay Hollow Forms - Half-lentils, lentils, and more
Create gorgeous pendants and beads of fine silver using PMC. In this class you will learn to expand your PMC skills for dimension, lightness, and efficient clay use. Texturing and finishing techniques will help you to produce pieces unique to you. Students will have the opportunity to finish at least one piece. Depending on time, piece(s) may not be fired in class; pieces will be available for pick-up the following day. Class registration must be 10 days before class to allow for ordering of materials. Students registering after this time will be responsible to acquire their own clay.

Wire Crochet Bracelet
This project based class will not only teach you how to crochet, but it will help you expand your beading repertoir. From wire, beads and a crochet hook you will learn to create a new look. Cost: $39, Skill Level: Beginner

Cross Weave Pearls
This project based class will teach you cross weaving and coiling with wire. Once complete you will be able to create not only bracelets but unique pendants and earrings.
Cost: $45, Skill Level: Intermediate Pre-requisite: Beading 201 or basic wire wrapping skills

Viking Knitting
Knitting is not just for yarn…come to this exciting class and learn the ancient art of Viking Knitting. Instead of needles and fiber, this technique uses Sterling Silver, Gold Filled or Art wire. You will learn how to loop the wire into a tube of silver and transform it into a bracelet. List of necessary materials and tools will be provided.

Viking Knitting - Advanced
Description: Take your Viking Knitting to the next level. In this class you will learn to use multiple weavers for a two-toned design, hammered Viking, interweaving tiny beads, capturing beads and a few more tricks! Whimsical Bracelet - Wire Wrapping 101 This project based class will show you how to take the basic techniques of Beading 201 to the next step. (Sample available at store.) List of necessary materials and tools will be provided. Cost: $40, Skill Level: Intermediate, Prerequisite: Beading 201, Sessions: 1

Pearl and Swarovski Necklace
Add dimension to your beading with this Pearl and Swarovski Necklace. This triple stranded necklace will incorporate many textures but is still delicate enough for any occasion.
Cost: $32, Skill Level: Beginner, Sessions: 1

Melding Swarovksi Pendant Weaving with bling! Show off the sparkle of Swarovski crystals with this woven pendants. This weaving class will teach you the basic square stitch without the need of a loom. Not all students will be able to complete the project, however all students will have the knowledge to complete this pendant on their own and take it to the next step to make rings or bracelets. Design Challenges
Beading 102 is geared to helping you develop a different perspective on your current designs. Students will be challenged to re-develop their designs, and the designs of fellow students. Those attending the class should have an open mind, and prepared for constructive criticism. Students will not have the opportunity to finish their work. Materials: Each student is asked to bring a selection of their bead collection and 3 pieces of existing work that may be cut for redesign. A complete list of materials will be provided at the time of registration. Cost: $35, Skill Level: Beginner

The Meaning of Stone
Did you know Amazonite stones improve confidence and that Garnets can bring passion to your life? Join this workshop to learn about the energy of stones and their meanings. Gain a new perspective on jewelry and add significance to your work.
Cost: $15, Skill Level: none

Classes are instructed by artisans skilled in the craft of beading. Their work is on display at Bead Q! for review.

Classes over 3 hours will allow for breaks. All day classes will allow for 1 hour lunch breaks. Please consider bringing a snack classes 3 hours and under.

Registration for classes may be made at the store or by phone. All classes require advance registration in order to allow time for ordering supplies. Classes must be paid in full at the time of registration. Cancellation must be made no less than 36 hours before the beginning of the class for a full refund. Cancellations made after 72 hours will result in a $20 non-refundable charge. Classes may be cancelled for insufficient sign-ups.
